Perspective on Regional Waste Disposal

Abstract

With the progress of urbanization in Japan, difficulties in acquiring a final disposal site have increased gradually. Especially in large city regions, this problem becomes more serious and it has therefore become necessary to secure regional-wide waste disposal sites. This paper deals with types of regional waste disposal facilities, their historical development and typical examples of them. It describes not only the author's view concerning the ideals for regional waste disposal for municipal wastes to be treated under the responsibility of municipalities and industrial wastes to be treated under the responsibility of enterprisers, but also special features and subjects of regional waste disposal facilities especially constructed and managed by public sectors.
