Abstract

It is feared that many unregulated chemical substances discharged from waste landfill sites pose various risks on human health and the ecosysytem via environmental contaminations. Both possibly carcinogenic and unregulated substances, such as 1,4-dioxane and bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, are detected in leachates from waste landfill sites and environmental media. Then, the risk management systems which include risk assessments using bioassays, qualitative risk assessments prior to deciding upon locations of landfill sites and so on, must be constructed.
