Abstract

The population management of flies and rodents at waste disposal sites is needed for the promotion of waste treatment administration and environmental sanitation. This paper describes strategies for fly control at landfill sites, referring to the experience in Osaka City. Special emphasis is placed on the necessity of establishing effective systems of garbage collection and treatment for the reduction of fly breeding sources. The importance of introducing the integrated fly management system without intensive chemical spray is also stressed.
