Abstract

A questionnaire was devised to obtain information to evaluate the current and future conditions for recycling of sludge from treatment of waste water in Japanese food industries. The main volume of sludge from food industries was between 0 and 200 tons/year. In respect to the current situation of sludge treatment in food industries, most food industries make sludge treatment and/or disposal industrial waste management contracts. Many food industries which intend to stop making industrial waste management contracts hope to adopt drying and incineration treatment of sludge or to make dried bacterial fertilizer.
