Abstract

Waste oils prescribed in the Waste Management, excluding frame-resistant oils, Laws have been designated for inflammable waste oils. Although ignitable organic liquids have been prescribed in the Fire Protection Law, inflammable waste oils were designated as "Specially Controlled Waste" with a view to deal with the waste more strictly than other wastes. Meanwhile wastes containing one of nine volatile compounds were designated as "Specially Controlled Waste" in Cabinet Order for the Implementation of the Waste Management Law, amended in September 1994. Volatile organic compounds have the possibilities of exhibiting their environmental effect on air compartment through their volatilization. Therefore, it is necessary to treat them appropriately corresponding to their volatile property. In this paper, a method for judging flammability and volatility of waste oils and appropriate disposal of inflammable waste oils and wastes containing volatile organic compounds are mentioned. The judging method of flammability and volatility depends on the content of flammable volatile organic compounds which have a low boiling point.
