Abstract

As we consider the problems of natural resource conservation and environmental protection including the reduction of waste, it is necessary to change Japanese social and economical structures as well as to change the consciousness and behavior of the citizens within their communities.

In this report, we introduce an outline of six forums held by the Japan Waste Research Foundation in cooperation with the Regional Research and Planning Office, sponsored by the All Japan Prefectural and Municipal Workers Union, which aims to reconsider the relationship between citizens, community and waste.

Key words: citizens, community, activation, cooperation, social and economical structures
