Abstract

Policies for the remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater in some industrialized countries, especially the USA and The Netherlands, are introduced. General tendency of policies are: to set intervention values for specified chemical substances, remediation target values and the urgency of clean-up action in laws and regulations which are different from nation to nation. Every policy seems to be on trial now due to the fact that identification of the true and valid party liable for the contamination caused by past treatment is controversial. At the same time, present policies must promote the remediation of contaminated sites.

Key words: remediation of contaminated soil, remediation policies for contaminated soil, risk assessment for contaminated soil
