Leaching Properties of Industrial and Municipal Solid Wastes

Abstract

It is important to investigate the leaching properties of various kinds of industrial and municipal wastes for adequate waste management (toxicity judging), landfilling, or utilization of wastes. Leaching properties are provided and discussed under the following viewpoints(1)comparison between industrial wastes (slag, sludge, and ash) and municipal solid waste incinerator ash (bottom ash and fly ash) using pH-dependent tests, (2)pH-dependent leached amounts from many industrial wastes using the Japanese regulatory leaching test (JLT-13), (3)content and leached amount, (4)liquid/solid ratio and contact time in leaching tests. Although each leaching test, including JLT-13, provides useful data regarding leaching properties, a unified set of leaching tests is needed to accumulate comparable leaching data for various kinds of wastes.
