Abstract

Through the implementation of the Basic Environmental Law and the Basic Environmental Plan, the Environment Agency of Japan has taken many measures to promote the use of more environmentally friendly products. These measures include the Eco-Mark Program, started in 1989, the Green Purchasing Network, established in 1997 and the Product Recommendation List, established in 1998, to name just a few. In this report I will describe how these, and other programs, provide valuable information to consumers on environmental purchasing.
