Approach of Construction Industry for Recycling of Construction Waste

Abstract

As much as 25 percent of total industrial waste is generated from construction activities. In order to reduce this amount, the construction industry has set up and publicized a recycling target, that is intended to be achieved by 2010. The Keidanren set reduction goals for it's 26 participating industries in December 1999. In addition, the construction industry has written the "Action Plan for Construction Waste Recycling," whose philosophy matches that of the "Recycling Promotion Plan '97" of the Ministry of Construction. Through the activities mentioned above, the corresponding situations havs been improving. This paper introduces the outline of the "Action Plan for Construction Waste Recycling" and current resulting situations. Construction sludge and construction mixture waste, of which the recycling rate has been low, are explained in detail.
