The Occurrence and Intermediate Disposal of Earthquake Waste

Abstract

This is a general report on the scrap and waste from the houses and buildings that collapsed in the Hyogo-ken-Nambu Earthquake. As much as 2,075,000 tons of it was transported to a temporary site in Koshien-Hama, arranged by the Nishinomiya City Government. From this scrap and waste, the amount per house and that per unit area were estimated. These figures will surely be useful to the waste disposal project. Scrap and waste from the houses and buildings in the City of Nishinomiya that collapsed in the Hyogo-ken-Nambu Earthquake were gathered in a temporary site in Koshien-Hama, intermediately disposed of, and then transported to a final disposal site. Since most of this scrap and waste was a mixture of various materials, its characteristics were examined in disposal.
